Creating a calming, zen like home

As its #mentalhealthawareness week we wanted to highlight the importance of your home surroundings and how with a few tweaks you could create a calming home environment.

Physical environments directly impact our psychological health so keeping your home a relaxed space is so important.

Here are a few tips on what we think help create a calming zen like home.

Bring the outside in

Plants and flowers are good for your health as not only do they look pretty but they reduce stress and boast your mood. The colour, smell or even the act of giving or receiving flowers can chase away anxieties and worries.

Add some art

Palm & Wild art prints have been described as ‘calming’ by many of our social media followers and customers. The boho, abstract and tropical shapes and calming colour combinations help reduce stress. Also adding art to your home shows your personality which will help transform your room into a more characterful and happy space.

Open Windows

Especially relevant if you live in a flat and don’t have a garden or balcony. Hear the sound of the birds and the feel the fresh air breeze.

Light candles

The scent of a candle can help you escape. It can bring back certain memories of a place you love or bring a fragrant smell that will give off a soothing and relaxing vibe. If you're not a fan of candles try putting some diffusers around the home.

Soft light colours

Whether its wall colour or home decor and accessories, neutral, soft and light colours give a room more of a calming and spacious atmosphere. Studies reveal that rooms with bright light can improve depression and anxiety. Also lighter coloured curtains let in more sunlight bringing a brighter and sunnier feel to the room. Greens and Blues are also good colours to invite harmony and restfulness to the home.

Photos

Put some photos up. Frame some good memories and put them up around your home. Every time you look at them they should bring you some joy and happiness.

Soft furnishings

Cushions, throws, and rugs bring comfort as well as a relaxing feel to a room. Sink into some fluffy cushions or wrap a throw around you on a chilly day. The cosiness of soft furnishings brings happiness to a home.

De-cluttering your home

Finally de-cluttering your home can lower stress levels and give you a feeling of self achievement. Coming home to a tidy space makes you feel more at ease and relaxed. If you don’t want to throw anything away there are some get storage solutions out there to keep things tidy and out of site.
